5th CREATE Congress 2012


 The Caraga Region Engineering, Architecture and Technology Educators (CREATE) held its 5th CREATE Congress, with the theme “Responsible Planning and Technology Applications towards Sustainable Development” last March 2, 2012 at Sanchez Gymnasium, Caraga State University, Ampayon, Butuan City.

The 5th CREATE Congress was made very affordable to students and faculty due to the sponsorship of the City Government of Butuan  thru Mayor Jun Amante, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies  and  ADFIL Corporation. Minor sponsors are Philsaga Mining Corporation, Taganito Mining Corporation, Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Forestry and Resources Research and Development (CCARRD) and Carascal Nickel Corporation .Other sponsors included were, Dataworld Computer Corporation, Mayor Dale Corvera of Cabadbaran City. Bayantel and Microsoft provided some freebies. Collaborating government agencies are: CHED, DOST and DTI.

Caraga State University President, Dr. Joanna B. Cuenca welcomed over 800 engineering, architecture, and technology students and faculty from state and local universities and colleges in Caraga Region. There were also 50 high school and 100 elementary students who were invited. Participating schools included:

Important messages were delivered from the DOST Caraga Regional Dir. Lyndo G. Villacorta and the Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. as represented by Councilor Angelo S. Calo. Mayor Amante’s message emphasized the role of educators in teaching the students on how to use engineering, architecture, and technology in preserving the environment and not to destroy it to achieve sustainable development.

A quiz bowl and a contest on paper presentations and project/inventions were the highlights of the Congress. A total of 27 paper presentations were collected and deliberated at the CEIT AVR- the first in the history of  engineering, architecture  and technology congress in the region. Public viewing of projects in CSU Gym and a tour at the Hitachi Regional Laboratory and S&T Building in CSU were also the things to see during the day. 

Engr. Ramil A. Sanchez, Supervising Education Program Specialist of CHED Caraga, conducted the quiz bowl in the afternoon. The 4th CREATE Challenge was  participated by 25 teams from 12 participating HEIs. The winners of the contests were the following:

Prior to the 5th CREATE Congress, CREATE facilitated Appreciation Workshop on GIS/RS Application for Engineering, Architecture and Technology and Training/Workshop on Intellectual Property (IP) Critiquing and On-site IP Registration at CSU on March 1, 2012. Engr. Meriam M. Santillan, Engr. Michelle V. Japitana, and Engr. Merito J. Carag facilitated the workshops, respectively.

 An oath taking of the new set of CREATE Officers and Socialization happened during the night. The newly inducted officers are:

 The 5th CREATE Congress is an annual event conducted to gather Architecture, Engineering, Information and Technology students and faculty to discuss the latest trends in Engineering, Architecture, and Technology, update the CREATE constituents about Disaster Risk Reduction, and for the students, to showcase their projects and researches at very affordable cost for both students and faculty. According to Engr. Demetillo-CREATE president, this year’s congress set new standards for conducting affordable yet very productive student activity.
